Music and Lyrics by Rodgers & Hammerstein Directed by Kit McKay A vibrant, boiled down unearthing of the 1958 classic The Sound of Music, in concert form, directed by Kit McKay. More than 60 years after The Sound of Music blazed onto the American stage, this intimate production offers the opportunity to experience Rodgers and Hammerstein’s unabashedly romantic masterpiece as though for the first time. Parallel 45’s timely approach to the story you know and love asks that we watch with fresh eyes as a broken family heals itself in order to stand against the forces of evil as a unified front. Based on the Comic Strip Peanuts by Charles M SchulzDirected by Jesse JouBring the entire family to experience the acclaimed musical comedy You’re a Good Good Man, Charlie Brown. Meet Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang as they explore life’s great questions and celebrate the joy of being together. This production is a great way to help our littlest audience members cope with big feelings and develop resilience in an increasingly challenging world; where innocence and experience and loneliness are not solely the province of unusually precocious and privileged children living in a green suburbia, but also part of the story of children across our country.Tickets $25/$18 GET TICKETS
Play Readings by The MITTEN Lab alumni: Monet Hurst-Mendoza, Liz Morgan and Andrew Rincón Directed by Katherine M. Carter, Khalia Davis& Jesse Jou
Each season, Parallel 45 Theatre invites audiences to a series of play-readings featuring the work of daring playwrights produced across the country and around the world. These plays allow us to include multiple voices in important, ongoing conversations around race, religion, gender-identity and more. Each reading concludes with a panel featuring artists and community members.
Making up for lost pandemic time, this year’s readings will take place over the course of one day on the lawn of Parallel 45 Theatre’s outdoor performance space at Civic Center Park, creating a one-day festival of dazzling theatrical material, in-depth conversations, and safe community gathering opportunities. The 2021 playwrights are all award-winning alumni of the MITTEN Lab: Monet Hurst-Mendoza, Liz Morgan and Andrew Rincón. The reading series’ directors hail from across the United States; Katherine M. Carter, Khalia Davis, and Jesse Jou will bring these readings alive in collaboration with the P45 actors you know and love.
