The Benzie Area Historical Society (BAHS) seeks a qualified individual to serve as
Executive Director. This is a full-time, salaried position.
The BAHS is a member-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to telling
the stories of our region and connecting our history to the public through a wide range of
programs, including the Benzie Area Historical Museum, Drake School, Benzonia
Academy Lecture Series, Junior Historians Program, Summer Tours, Quarterly
Newsletter, Online Resources, and other offerings.
Job Title: Executive Director, Benzie Area Historical Society
Job Description: The Executive Director is responsible for the effective and efficient
day-to-day operation of the Benzie Area Historical Society and Museum.
About the Role: As Executive Director, you will help distinguish the Benzie Area
Historical Society with professionalism, best practices and actions that build donor and
community loyalty. Among the responsibilities of the role are:
Museum Operations: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Benzie
Area Historical Museum, including coordinating teams of volunteers who are
engaged in various museum activities: docents, archivists, business teams, and
more. The Executive Director supports the growth of these volunteer teams
through on-going recruitment and active participation in volunteer meetings and
activities.
Programs and Events Management: Together with BAHS volunteers, manage
and coordinate all Museum programs and events, including schedules, speakers,
guides, support teams, event registration, facilities, and other event activities.
Additional responsibilities include occasional public speaking and presentations
at these events.
Communications: Develop and implement effective publicity and marketing
campaigns, generating awareness and participation in BAHS programs and
events, including website posts, social media, press releases, advertising, flyers,
surveys, and other media formats.
Donor and Community Relations: Build support for BAHS financial goals
through fundraising campaigns and submissions to various grant programs. In
addition, maintain ongoing communication with donors, through personal
outreach and group communications. Outreach extends to building ties with other
community organizations, as well as state and national Museum and Historical
organizations.
Information and Data Management: Maintain detailed records regarding BAHS
donors, volunteers, policies, meetings, programs, and other materials, using
computer-based data storage as well as paper-based filing systems.
About You: The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
Five years of relevant experience, preferably in nonprofit leadership.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and experience.
Demonstrated experience working in a public setting with visitors, patrons,
volunteers, and community organizations.
High level of problem-solving and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Interest in professional development, including Fundraising, Museum Leadership
and Best Practices, Marketing & Communications, Technology, etc.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software and various technology platforms.
Compensation: Salary ranges from $45K to $55K, depending upon qualifications and
experience. Additional benefits available. This is not a remote position.
