Leelanau Historical Society

Our mission is to preserve and share the history of Leelanau County to inspire others to explore and interpret the past for future generations to learn and appreciate. Come explore local history on the river! LHS services include a museum with permanent and rotating exhibits, a gift shop, in-person and virtual events and programs, workshops, that feature various topics of the Leelanau Peninsula’s history – Shipwrecks, Lighthouses, Native American Basketry, Early Mapping and more! Museum exhibits are open all year. Seasonal Winter Hours are Wed.-Fri. 11-4pm. The Research Center offers several online resources. Appointments are required to visit the center in person.
