Gallery Manager - Glen Arbor Arts Center

The Gallery Manager leads exhibitions from planning and concept development through artist and juror relationships, installation, interpretation, public programming, sales administration, and deinstallation. Working collaboratively with GAAC staff, artists, volunteers, community partners, and outside vendors, the Gallery Manager creates thoughtful, professionally presented exhibitions and welcoming opportunities for community engagement with the arts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Exhibition Planning & Curatorial Leadership

  •  Lead GAAC's annual and multi-year exhibition planning 
  • Research and develop exhibition concepts,
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with artists, jurors, guest curators, arts organizations, and potential partners.

2. Exhibition Production & Gallery Operations

  •  Manage the full exhibition cycle, including artist communications, artwork submissions, inventory, delivery and pickup, installation, deinstallation, and return or shipping.
  •  Lead gallery preparation and exhibition installation, including artwork placement, lighting, labels, signage, interpretive materials, and overall presentation.
  • Maintain professional standards for artwork handling and ensure gallery spaces are clean, safe, accessible, and welcoming.

3. Programming & Audience Engagement

  •  Develop companion programming that uses exhibition themes as springboards for interdisciplinary exploration and community engagement.

4. Special Programs & Projects In addition to the Exhibition Program, the Gallery Manager provides staff oversight for designated programs and special projects, currently including the Artist-in-Residence Program and annual Manitou Music Poster.

 

QUALIFICATIONS Required • Professional experience in gallery or museum work, curatorial practice, exhibition management, arts administration, or a closely related field. • Demonstrated curatorial judgment and experience working professionally with practicing artists and visual artwork.

Preferred • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in studio art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, or a related field. • A personal or professional creative studio practice. • Experience curating or managing juried, invitational, group, and/or solo exhibitions.

WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION This is a part-time, 28 hours/week position with a flexible schedule based on the exhibition calendar and organizational needs. Weekend facility coverage and some evening work are required. Compensation: $21–$23 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
