Frame the Theme - “What does Literacy Mean to You?” Call for Artists

The invitation is deliberately broad. Artists working in any medium are asked to submit a single piece that carries some tie or connection to literacy — a thread back to a book that changed them, the shape of a letter, the quiet of a library, a story handed down, the moment a word first made sense. How that connection shows up is entirely up to the artist.

"A book opens a mind. So does art," said Kimberly Robinson, Board Member of The Folded Leaf Foundation. "We've always believed that reading is how a person learns to stand inside someone else's life for a while — that's where empathy starts. Art does the same work by a different door. Bringing artists into this feels less like a fundraiser and more like a reunion of people who were already doing the same thing."

Submission Details
- Who may submit: Artists of all levels and mediums working in or connected to the Grand Traverse region
- What to submit: One original work with a connection to literacy, plus an artist statement, photos of the work, and dimensions.
- Intent to Submit: Sep 21, 2026
- Deadline: October 24, 2026
