Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs Minigrants

Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs (MCACA) minigrants are available to Michigan arts and cultural nonprofit organizations, schools and municipalities for projects, professional development, and school bus trips, equipment and supplies. Granting period is October 1 through September 30 each year.

The Northwest Michigan Arts and Culture Network is the Regional Regrantor for Region 2 (Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee & Wexford)

The following Minigrant opportunities are available each year:

  • Project Minigrants (up to $4,000)
  • Professional & Organizational Development – “POD” – Minigrants (up to $1,500)
  • Arts Trek – School Bus Minigrants (up to $500 for transportation to arts and cultural experiences)
  • School Art Supplies & Equipment Minigrants (up to $1,500)

Applications for Minigrant Projects and PODs are due each year on August 3. Individual artists, arts educators and arts administrators are able to apply for POD minigrants in addition to nonprofit organizations. If all funds are not used in August, a Round 2 will be offered with a 1/15 deadline. There is no guarantee for a Round 2. The next deadline will be 8/3/2021 for FY22 Minigrant Projects & PODs.

School minigrants applications are open through April 16 for funding requests to assist with school art supplies, arts equipment or buses for field trips. Applicants must be Michigan accredited PreK-12 educational institutions, including public, non-public and private schools, home school, local and intermediate school districts, regional educational services agencies and accredited Head Start programs.

Applications for school bus and school art equipment and supplies opened are being accepted on a rolling basis until all funding utilized.

Additional MCACA Grants: Larger grants are available for Operational Support, Project Support, Capital Improvements, Arts in Education and New Leaders. Link to the MCACA site for specific program guidelines. Deadlines for all FY22 applications – other than minigrants – is 6/1/21 for funding 10/1/21-9/30/22.
