Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs
Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs (MCACA) minigrants are available through Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Network to Michigan nonprofit organizations, schools and municipalities for arts and cultural projects, professional and organizational development, and school bus trips, arts equipment and art supplies. Granting period is October 1 through September 30 each year.
The Northwest Michigan Arts and Culture Network is the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs regrant agency for Region 2 (Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee & Wexford)
The following Minigrant opportunities are available annually:
- Project Minigrants (up to $4,000)
- Professional & Organizational Development – “POD” – Minigrants (up to $1,500)
- Arts Trek – School Bus Minigrants (up to $500 for transportation to arts and cultural experiences)
- School Art Supplies & Equipment Minigrants (up to $1,500)

Applications for Minigrant Projects and PODs are due each year on August 3. Individual artists, arts educators and arts administrators are able to apply for POD minigrants in addition to nonprofit organizations. If all funds are not used in August, a Round 2 will be offered with a 1/15 deadline. There is no guarantee for a Round 2. The next deadline will be 8/3/2022 for FY23 Minigrant Projects & PODs. There is NO Round 2 in FY22
School minigrants applications open August 9 and are accepted through April 15 for funding requests to assist with school art supplies, arts equipment or buses for field trips. Applicants must be Michigan accredited PreK-12 educational institutions, including public, non-public and private schools, home school, local and intermediate school districts, regional educational services agencies and accredited Head Start programs.
Applications for school bus and school art equipment and supplies minigrants are accepted on a rolling basis until all funding utilized or no later than 4/15/2022.
Informational Webinars, Consults & Drop-in Assistance
NW Michigan Arts & Culture Network presents one-hour webinars and virtual Q&A sessions April – July, by request, or prior to deadlines to review guidelines and assist prospective applicants. Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs offers several larger grant opportunities annually. These include: Operational Support, Project Support, Capital Improvements, Arts in Education and New Leaders. Link to the MCACA site below for specific program guidelines. Deadline for all FY22 applications is past – the next deadline will be for FY23 on 6/1/2022. MCACA grant deadline is traditionally on 6/1 with a funding window of 10/1 – 9/30 each year.
