2021 Regional Summit 5/4/21

Planning is underway for the 2021 Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Summit. The 5th regional summit was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID but returns in 2021 as a virtual convening focused on Recovery & Resiliency. 
The 2021 Summit is open to all & free to members – with speakers, panels, breakouts and network. Watch for more details. Planning suggestions and help are most welcome  – contact arts@nwmiarts.net.

New Gig Fund Grant Applications Open

Arts Midwest is offering $2,500 grants to help arts & culture organizations grow their capacity, fund artist engagements, & build community. Deadline 5/3 for projects between July & December 2021.

Artist Emergency Fund Re-Opens

Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology has new funding to re-open its Artists Emergency Fund applications. These are $500 emergency grants for gig artists impacted by COVID-19 who make at least 1/3 of their income from their art and live in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska or Leelanau counties.

GTRCF Urgent Need Funds

The Grand Traverse Community Foundation has expanded eligibility for its Urgent Needs Fund to include arts and cultural nonprofit organizations within the five county Grand Traverse region. Information to apply is available here.
 

School Art Equip & Supplies Minigrants

Deadline for northern Michigan schools to apply for MCACA minigrants for School Equipment or Supplies is 4/16. Grants are approved on a rolling basis for requests up to $1,500. A teacher or school must be the applicant. Guidelines here. Questions, contact arts@nwmiarts.net.

The Art of Reopening: A Virtual Conversation on Reengaging Arts Audiences in Physical Spaces, 3/23

Opening remarks by Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, this virtual event will highlight best practices of reopening & consider the outlook for arts organizations who seek to re-engage with live audiences & visitors in 2021. No charge but registration required.  3/23, 3-4pm
 

AFTA Offering Free Registration 

Americans for the Arts is offering full registration funding for the National Arts Action Virtual Summit, slated for April 5-9.  Participants learn the latest in arts policy through issue-specific briefings, advocacy trainings, legislator meetings & networking opportunities. Session topics include: arts & culture agency funding, arts education, tax policy, COVID-19 relief & recovery, creative economy & many more. Program info here. Full registration support info here. 
Thank you to all from northern Michigan who participated in the Cultural Advocacy Network of Michigan’s virtual legislative advocacy day on 3/12. Regional meetings were held with Sens. VanderWall & Schmidt, and Reps. Borton, Roth & O’Malley. Watch for further advocacy follow-ups, but one of the consistent takeaways – to keep in touch with our elected officials & staffs. Send invitations to events, news releases, attend coffee hours and keep them in the loop on the impact each of us is making in our work, as well as the significant challenges all have faced due to COVID. Museum Store Displays for Sale, Dennos Museum Center, Traverse City: 

The Dennos Museum Center is selling two large displays that were in the Museum Store – one that held cards and matted prints, and one with a bookshelf side and tiered display side with drawer storage. Downtown Traverse City is currently accepting applications for its three summer art fairs,due 4/1. Info here
Traverse City Arts Commission will be posting a Call for Art during week of 3/22 for its upcoming “Union Mural Project” slated for installation summer 2021. Project calls for four murals, proposed in pairs, to be painted on buildings along Union Street, including the Old Town neighborhood of Downtown Traverse City.
