Support the Network & Arts/Cultural Orgs This Saturday, 11/12 in Downtown TC

Help support the Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Network and other participating arts and cultural organizations this coming Saturday, 11/12, by shopping in downtown Traverse City. For every purchase made at 60 participating merchants, 15% of the sale will be donated to the organizations of your choice. Scholarship Deadline Extended

Deadline for the Virginia B. Ball Creative Writing Scholarship Competition has been extended to 11/20. This is a full-tuition scholarship (a $70K+ value) to the creative writing program at Interlochen Arts Academy. Students in grades 8-11 are encouraged to apply. Share this link with young creative writers and/or contact the Admission department with any questions at admission@interlochen.org. .

Big Read Grant Apps Open

Arts Midwest is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Program. The NEA Big Read is a community engagement opportunity with grants of up $20,000 for community-wide reading programs (in-person and/or virtual).  Organizations can choose one of 15 available books. deadline to submit Intent to Apply is 1/18/23, completed applications due by 1/25/23. Minigrant Apps Open – Deadline 1/15

Michigan Arts & Culture Council minigrant applications are open for Round 2 Funding for:

  • Minigrant Projects
  • School Arts & Cultural Equipment and Supplies
  • School Bus Transportation for Field Trips to Arts and Cultural Experiences
  • NOTE: Sorry but No POD Minigrants are being accepted during Round 2

Deadline for all is 1/15/2023 at 5pm. School minigrants are processed on a rolling basis. Project Minigrants will be reviewed in late January/early February with funding available to be used 3/1-9/30/2023.

Last Call for DEI Training 11/10

There are still a few spots available for tomorrow’s deep dive DEI training with the Journey Theatre Project  led by Esther Triggs, Journey Theatre Project co-founder and Interlochen Center for the Arts Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Register here to join us for:

  • Thursday, 11/10: Race and You (9am-noon) & Dress Rehearsal for Change (1-4pm)
  • Follow-up Session – Monday, 1/30/23: Necessary Conversations (9am-noon).

This deep dive training is usually not available or easily accessible in Northern Michigan. Thanks to grant support from the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation DEI Fund and the Rotary Charities Learning Fund, the Network is able to offer participation at no cost to Network members. It was exciting to take a look at the Network’s new office space at Commongrounds last week with board members Megan Holtrey, Nick Walsh and Leslie Donaldson.
