Sample Advocacy Message

Hello Senator – I’m reaching out today regarding funding for the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC).  I understand you are juggling several budget issues right now, including creating more and better jobs. However, funding for arts and culture is critical to keep people and families in our state and in our communities. In fact, arts and the creative industries generate $13.5-billion for Michigan.

I urge you to support the funding level included in the House subcommittee budget recommendation for state arts and cultural organizations, which increased funding by $4 million. This extends the tangible benefits of arts, culture, and creativity to every community in the state, fuels public-private partnerships, and puts tax dollars and decision-making authority into local hands.

Last year alone, MACC provided $923,219  in grants to organizations and schools in Northwest Michigan (NOTE: Use the district data sheet links for local examples)
