Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra

GLCO Announces New Executive Director

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce their new Executive Director, Meg Brodie-Ideker. She has been working with the GLCO since October 2023 as their General Manager. A music educator by training, Meg has most recently taught and led the Fine Arts Department at Concordia International School of Shanghai where she served as choral director, organized and hosted numerous music festivals, traveled with student musician performers within Asia, Europe and the USA, and led the student music honor society and fundraisers. Meg also served on the Board of Directors for AMIS (Association of Musicians in International Schools) which hosts multiple, annual band, choral and orchestral music festivals and educator conferences around the globe for students and music educators living in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. While living in Beijing, Meg worked at the USA Embassy, directly for the US Ambassador and his wife, by managing the official residence and facilitating official entertaining at the Ambassador’s Residence. John and Meg were business partners of The Montague Inn in Saginaw, MI from 1986-2008, with 4 other couples. Meg served as Innkeeper in the early years before they moved overseas. Currently, Meg currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Little Traverse Choral Society and the Church Board Session for First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs.

GLCO Board President, Scott Langton, said, “We are very pleased to have Meg on our team. She brings a world of experience with her and offers us strong organization skills with a broad perspective for planning which will help us for years to come. ”

Meg has been a summer resident in Harbor Springs since 2014 and has lived here year-round since 2022. Meg and family have spent 25 years living aboard in China, France and the UK with husband, John’s, corporate career. They have recently spent 17 years living in Shanghai, where they enjoyed raising their twins.

Meg added, “I am thrilled to join an extraordinarily talented and passionate board and staff, who are bringing first class orchestral music to Northern Michigan. The commitment to quality classical music in our community is exceptional and I am honored to be part of it.”

Meg will be singing in the chorus for the GLCO Carmina Burana | Organ Symphony Concert on June 14 at Hall Auditorium in Bay View. She will host Crescendo – GLCO’s annual gala fundraiser on June 26 at the Perry Hotel. And she will also attend the GLCO July Concert Ravel’s Tzigane | Gypsy Violin on July 18 at Great Lakes Center for the Arts. We congratulate Meg on her new position, and we know she will add the perfect leadership to our GLCO organization.
