A Midsummer's Daydream
Join us for a magical afternoon of poetry and music on the beautiful grounds of the Hindle-Ross Trails near Cross Village. Stroll over 2 miles of rolling hills, through fields and forests and encounter poets, musicians, an analemmatic sundial, a lookout tower with views of Waugoshance Point and the Upper Peninsula, quotes carved in stone, dappled shade and seating areas, and the enchantment that happens when art meets nature.
This event will feature the music of Holly Keller-Thompson and Joe Thompson, poetry readings by David Frederick, Tiffany Lenau, Jeremy Palmer, Dar Charlebois, and Megan Kellner, a community poem, and an art project led by artists Susan Lyman and Fern and Olive McCormack.
The event is free, but parking is limited; you must register for a free parking pass using this link.
Directions:
From Cross Village go east on Levering Road about 1.5 miles, then turn south on Lookout Road. Go approx. one-half mile to the top of Lookout Road where it dead-ends, and turn into the field at the right to park.
From the south - take US-31 north to Levering Road. Go east 10 miles. Pass Hill Road on your left. Turn south on Lookout Road and follow the directions above.

Need to know:
- Please carry water. We will have some water available, but the trail is partly in the sun and may get hot.
- Please be advised that there are ticks in the area. Closed-toed shoes and bug spray are recommended.
- Please stay on the mowed trails.
- This event will happen rain or shine; please be prepared for the weather.
- Please drive slowly on Lookout Road to avoid stirring up dust.
- We expect that it will take roughly an hour to complete the trail, and more if you linger by poets, music, or views. You may start the trail on your own schedule but bear in mind that you may want the full two hours for the experience. A final gathering will happen at 4PM at the fire circle with readings and music.
