Tom Kaufmann

Tom Kaufmann is a musician, sculptor, and edutainer. He currently performs  at Slate Restaurant in Sorellina’s on Front St.in Traverse City.  Previously, he appeared in the Beacon Lounge, at the Top of the Park Place Hotel for nearly 20 years, and before that was the Entertainment Director for the Grand Traverse Resort.  He is also well known for the personalized musical wire sculptures he creates, “Your Name Rings a Bell”. His music education program, “Tinkertunes” has given thousands of children an opportunity to learn about the science of sound through music, and his “Traveling Musical Instrument Petting Zoo” has visited schools, libraries, and museums throughout the state.

His 2013 ArtPrize entry “KinderBells”, a playable sculpture made from recycled oxygen tanks, was purchased by the City of Cadillac. His 2014 entry “ Music-Go-Round” was purchased by Ripley’s Museums.  His outdoor musical sculptures can be seen throughout Michigan, in Traverse City, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Charlevoix, Petoskey, Cadillac, Grand Ledge, and Hastings. He also has sculptures in Palo Alto, Campbell, and San Diego California, and Rochester , Minnesota.
